Got Milk?....uh without synthetic hormones???

Moms everywhere tell their children to drink their milk because it's good for you.

...yet again we've gone and messed with our food to make another buck...

In 1993, the FDA approved the use of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), also known as bovine somatotropin (rbST), in American dairy cows. Farmers inject this man-made hormone into their cows to increase their milk production. This practice has been banned in Europe, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Australia, but amazingly here in the USA - we're still fighting simply for the milk to be LABELED whether it includes this hormone or not.

Since these products are not labeled as containing rBGH / rBST, most consumers have no idea that a growth hormone intended to induce dairy cows to be more productive is in much of their milk, cheese, and yogurt.

Why should this concern you?

THEY MAKE THE COWS SICK
Cows treated with this synthetic hormone often have significant health problems, including a 50 percent increase in the risk of lameness (leg and hoof problems), over a 25 percent increase in the frequency of udder infections (mastitis), and serious animal reproductive problems, i.e., infertility, cystic ovaries, fetal loss and birth defects.  You would think this alone would be a "red flag" that we shouldn't be injesting something that makes cows so sick.

ANTIBIOTIC RESIDUE
Because injections of this man-made hormone result in more cases of mastitis, farmers have to administer more antibiotics to fight infection, and the residue of those antibiotics may end up in milk and dairy products. These residues can cause allergic reactions and contribute to the growth of antibiotic resistant bacteria, further undermining the efficacy of antibiotics in fighting human infections.

IFG-I DIGESTION
Research has shown conclusively that the levels of a hormone called "insulin-like growth factor-1" (IFG-1) are elevated in dairy products produced from cows treated with rBGH.

Research done in Canada and Europe show increased IGF-1 in rBGH milk could survive digestion and make its way into the intestines and blood stream. Numerous studies link IGF-1 to the growth of cancers of the breast, prostate and colon.

SO WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN
We just need to be aware of this stuff and make up our own minds what we want in our food.  I would venture to say MOST Americans have never even heard of this before - I know I had not until I started really studying my food.  I'm shocked this is even allowed, considering all the studies that have been done regarding and the fact that so many other countries have banned it completely.  We have to be aware that decisions about our food are being made by companies  like Monsanto that have their own agenda - and our public health is not high on that agenda.

Please take a moment to send this note to Governor Strickland of Ohio so we can at least be aware by a proper LABEL that the milk doesn't contain this crap.  It's a friggin label - makes you wonder what they are so afraid of.  KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

What really bothers me is that if it makes the cows so sick, how are they still profiting from this process? You know? Too much milk in general is not that great for you. You should also include that calcium without vitamin D is useless. They need each other in order to benefit your bootylicious body. Something I'd venture to say even more people are unaware of. Stoneyfield farms milk is the BEST- you can truly taste the difference. Its $3.19 aprox.

mmmm I'm drinking some right now!
