I would often imagine what the future would be like after watching the Jetson's when I was a little girl. The Jetson's had REAL fast food - you could speak whatever you want to eat, push a big button and there it was! I remember thinking about how things would be in the "year 2000!"
Although we don't have those cool buttons in most American homes, we certainly do have very "fast" options for dinner in this day and age. We have space-age bags that you can take from the freezer and pop in the microwave and 90 seconds later BADABOOMBADABING dinner is served! Our rice comes in a bag that you dump and warm. Don't get me wrong - these things are way cool...but I find it amazing that we don't think harder about HOW the food that is so "quick to cook" is made to be so cool?
We're really paying a hefty price for the convenience of processed food and it's not worth the convenience. There's nothing like smelling the aroma of organic herbs and veges cooking - you just can't get that from a space-age bag. The colors of "real food" are more vibrant, aroma is unmatched and the taste...mmmm the taste.
Cook up some real food this week : )
