A lot of people ask what the Organic Geek is all about and why do I do it? I really have no other motive to keep up a blog and facebook group than simply to encourage. I believe encouragement is the most powerful thing on the planet and I'm a computer nerd, so the internet is the perfect tool to help me encourage. Another reason is accountability. You provide me not only with encouragement, but accountability, which keeps me up on my game....so I guess it's alot of selfishness!
About 3 years ago, someone gave me a copy of Tony Horton's Ab Ripper. I stayed up all night watching YouTube videos of people who had been transformed by the p90x program. At first, I was skeptical but after watching so many, I knew they couldn't all be phony.
I was intrigued and bought p90x that same night. Even though I was fairly slim build, I was soooo unhealthy. I drank about 6 cans of Mountain Dew a day, worked ungodly hours and lived on fast food. I actually thought the FDA was set up to protect us and they wouldn't allow something to be sold if it would hurt us. I was that naive about our food.
I did the first round of p90x without changing anything else in my life, but change was brewin. I felt so amazing after the workouts that I began to crave more. I bought books and books and educated myself about nutrition and was appalled to discover corporate greed is in control of our food system and much of what we eat is causing the health issues we are plagued with in society.
I did another round of p90x, but also began to cut one bad thing out of my diet at a time. With each step, I felt better and better. I began to SLEEP when I should. I was more awake when I was awake. I was sharper and clearer when I worked and had gobs and gobs of energy.
3 years later, I eat a very clean diet and know what I'm eating and that it's actually food. I am 43 years old and in better shape than ever before. I ran my first mile ever in January of 2010 and ran my first race, a half marathon in October of that same year. I had a full blood workup this year and my body is working like a well oiled machine.
In other words, it works. It works and I feel so good that it would be selfish of me not to share this. I would very much like to be a part of a community of encouragement where we all encourage each other to live healthy, effective and FUN lives. Thank you for being a part of it. <3
